Project Overview

This page covers a series of landscape and exterior construction projects delivered across multiple residential properties in Dubai during 2024, totalling over 25,000 sq ft of outdoor works. Rather than a single-site project, this represents our ongoing outdoor construction capability — the kind of work we do regularly for private villa owners who want their external areas built or rebuilt to a higher standard than the developer handover.

Typical scope on these projects included hardscaping (paving, boundary walls, pergolas), softscaping (planting, irrigation, turf), pool construction, outdoor kitchens, and external lighting. Each site was different in size, budget, and design brief, but the construction fundamentals are consistent — grading and drainage first, then hardscape, then MEP services, then softscape and lighting last.

We contracted each project individually with the homeowner, managing the design coordination, material procurement, and on-site works under a single agreement. For clients who came to us without a landscape design, we worked with external landscape architects to develop the layout before construction started.

Hardscaping, Pools, and Built Structures

Hardscaping made up the largest portion of the work across these sites. Materials ranged from natural stone (travertine and sandstone were the most common) to porcelain pavers and exposed aggregate concrete — the choice depended on each client's aesthetic preference and budget. Regardless of material, the preparation underneath is the same: compacted sub-base, sand setting bed or mortar bed depending on the paver type, and proper edge restraints to prevent lateral movement over time.

Pool construction was included on several of the sites. Each pool was a reinforced concrete shell with a waterproof render coat and either mosaic tile or a plaster finish. The filtration and chemical dosing equipment was housed in a below-grade plant room adjacent to the pool — keeping this equipment out of sight and out of the heat extends the life of the pumps and controls.

Pergolas and shade structures were a common request across these projects. Most were steel-framed with either timber or aluminium louvre cladding. The steel columns were set into concrete pad foundations sized to the loading — wind uplift is the main structural concern for shade structures in Dubai, not dead weight. Every pergola was engineered for the specific site's exposure rather than using a generic detail.

Material procurement and delivery scheduling was managed centrally across the projects. Natural stone in particular has long lead times when imported, so we batched orders across sites where the same material was specified, which reduced per-unit shipping costs and kept delivery schedules predictable.

Softscaping, Irrigation, and External Lighting

Planting design on these projects prioritised species that survive Dubai's summer heat without excessive irrigation. The go-to palette included date palms, washingtonia palms, bougainvillea, frangipani, and native ground covers like zoysia grass where turf was requested. We avoid recommending large areas of natural turf in Dubai unless the client understands the water cost — artificial turf or low-water ground cover is a more practical choice for most residential gardens.

Irrigation was a drip and micro-spray system on every site, zoned by plant type and controlled by smart timers. Where the property was in a community connected to a TSE (treated sewage effluent) supply, we connected to that for irrigation — it's cheaper than mains water and standard practice in most Dubai gated communities. For standalone villas on mains supply, we sized the irrigation system to minimise consumption through targeted drip emitters rather than broadcast sprinklers.

External lighting covered pathway bollards, tree and feature uplighting, pool lighting, and task lighting around outdoor kitchen and seating areas. All circuits were run in SWA (steel wire armoured) cable to IP65-rated fixtures — the minimum standard for outdoor electrical in the UAE. Lighting layouts were designed on a per-site basis, but the principle was the same everywhere: enough light for safety and usability without over-illuminating and wasting energy.

On projects where we also handled the villa's interior finishing, we coordinated the outdoor lighting scheme with the indoor design to create a consistent transition — warm colour temperatures throughout, matched dimming systems, and aligned switching zones so the living room, terrace, and garden can be controlled together.
